Gianni Bugno in the Giro d’Italia Hall of Fame: the announcement

A prestigious trophy for a legendary champion.

È the induction of Gianni Bugno into the Giro d'Italia Hall of Fame was announced today in a ceremony held at the renovated location of Eataly Smeraldo in downtown Milan. The ceremony è was followed by a light dinner for Bike Economy companies promoted by ICE, the Agency for the promotion abroad and internationalization of Italian companies.

Born in 1964, Bugno marked an era in Italian cycling thanks to his talents as a versatile rider, capable of having his say in both Grand Tours and big one-day races. His popularity, recognized globally, made him a true ambassador of Made in Italy in the world.

Of his fourteen seasons as a professional will remain imprinted above all the three-year period from 1990 to 1992 where he managed to impose himself at the Giro d'Italia, with a majestic show of strength that saw him wear the Maglia Rosa from the first to the last day, and in two editions of the World Championships.

Bugno thus becomes the 12th rider to enter the Giro d'Italia Hall of Fame and receive the prestigious Trofeo Senza Fine after Eddy Merckx (2012), Felice Gimondi (2013), Stephen Roche (2014), Francesco Moser (2015), Ercole Baldini (2016), Bernard Hinault (2017), Miguel Indurain (2018), Vittorio Adorni (2019), Gianni Motta (2022), Franco Balmamion and Giuseppe Saronni (2023).
