Elisa Longo Borghini celebrates again
Elisa Longo Borghini's trophy case is enriched with a new trophy, that of the 2024 edition of the Giro dell'Emilia, which the cyclist from Ornavasso won on Saturday at the finish line in Bologna, placed at the height of the Basilica of San Luca, after 113.8 kilometers of the race. The Lidl-Trek cyclist crossed the finish line solo, 9" ahead of French Evita Muzic (FDJ-Suez) and Dutch Juliette Labous (Team DSM-Firmenich PostNL), immediate pursuers who had to settle for the two lowest steps of the podium.
The top 10 also included another Italian athlete, Monica Trinca Colonel of BePink-Bongioanni, who finished in seventh place, 36" behind the winner. Only 11th was Cecile Uttrup Ludwig, of FDJ-Suez, winner of the last edition of the Emilian race.
For Elisa Longo Borghini è the umpteenth triumph of an extraordinary career and, in particular, of a season to reford, characterized among other successes by the victory of the women’s Giro d'Italia, the confirmation of the tricolor jersey at the Italian Championships and the two bronze medals (in the relay and in the road race) at the recent World Championships in Zurich.
