Lucia Bronzetti makes no mistake and moves on in Wuhan
WTA 1000 Wuhan: Lucia Bronzetti-Ajla Tomljanovic 6-1 7-6
Lucia Bronzetti made the most of Paula Badosa’s withdrawal from the Wuhan WTA 1000. Entered as a lucky loser in the main draw, the Italian tennis player did not fail on her debut, overcoming Australian Ajla Tomljanovic in two sets with a score of 6-1 7-6, after two hours of play.
In the first set there's only the Rimini native on the court, who immediately flew away in the score on 4-0 and easily closed the partial 6-1.
More front flips, however, during the second set: Bronzetti starts well by immediately placing the break in the opening set, then comes Tomljanovic’s response that reverses the match with a five-games-to-one partial. The Italian, however, does not give up and first recovers the disadvantage then earns the chance to serve for the match. The Australian player, however, defended herself tooth and nail and at the sixth attempt took the match to the tie-break, which was dominated by the Azure 7-2.
In the next round, Lucia Bronzetti will face Chinese host and world number 51 Xinyu Wang.
