Referees under indictment, Paolo Casarin identifies the problem
Continued controversy over refereeing
Despite the presence of VAR and constant changes to the rules to leave less and less room for subjective interpretations, the controversy over refereeing is growing by the day, both in Serie A and internationally. A situation that, according to dean of whistles Paolo Casarin, stems from an underlying problem.
"I do not m'è so easy to understand what is happening among referees, but a little bit' of experience I have and I see referees with little experience – Casarin, now 84, commented, speaking to the mocrofoni of 'Kiss Kiss Napoli' -. This moment of disbandment must be overcome quickly to find the right path. We need to review certain beliefs".
For Casarin, it is not è a question of protocols, but of authority: "The rules are the same for everyone, there are inexperienced referees,” he reiterated. “It seems to me that the interruptions of play today are not so many compared to the past, but it is necessary to intervene on an alleged foul in an expert and objective".
A native of Mestre, Casarin refereed in the Section of his birthplace from 1958 to 1960, then moved to the Milan Section until 1988. From 1990 to 1997 è he was also arbotral designator for Serie A and Serie B, a role he later left to Fabio Baldas before the 1997/98 season.
