Jannik Sinner to conquer the Six King Slam: staggering prize money
The challenge between Jannik Sinner and Daniil Medvedev
opens the tournament.
The Six King Slam, or the richest-ever exhibition tournament, begins today in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The world's top six tennis players, namely Jannik Sinner, current No. 1, Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, Holger Rune and Rafa Nadal (the Spaniard has just announced his retirement at the end of this year's season) are participating.
The Arab tournament has a staggering prize pool to put the ATP to shame. For participation alone, each tennis player receives a fee of $1.5 million. The winner, however, takes home as much as $6 million. A monster figure when you consider that, winning Wimbledon, you receive a check for $3.6 million.
Understandable, then, is the reason for the presence of the six racquet champions in a tournament that does not guarantee any points in the ATP ranking but offers the possibility of astronomical winnings and, just for being in Riyadh, one is è certain to collect $1.5 million anyway.
The formula of the tournament è particular. Novak Djokovic and Rafa Nadal will take the court starting with the semifinals, scheduled for Thursday, 5 p.m. Today the two quarterfinals. At 6:30 p.m. Italian time, Jannik Sinner will take on Daniil Medvedev, beaten a few days ago at the Shanghai Masters 1000. This will be followed by the interesting match between Carlos Alcaraz and Holger Rune. Novak Djokovic will faceà the winner of the confrontation between the world number 1 and the Russian while Rafa Nadal will have his turn; one between Carlos Alcaraz and Holger Rune.
