Nicolò Bulega, last record-breaking Superpole

Nicolò Bulega (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) signs the new record lap at the Circuito de Jerez – Angel Nieto taking his third pole in four rounds of the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship. Bulega signs an outstanding 1’37.596 preceding by 606 thousandths Toprak Razgatlioglu (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) at the end of the Tissot Superpole session of the Prometeon Round of Spain.

Razgatlioglu began the session by making a 1’38.306, then improved by just four thousandths by Alex Lowes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) on his first flying lap. Bulega però flies and takes the lead with a 1’38.141. Ducati’s strategy is clear, sending Bulega and boxmate Alvaro Bautista on track for two flying laps.

On his second run, Razgatlioglu follows teammate Michael van der Mark but his attempt to take pole goes up in smoke due to the presence of the yellow flag related to Jonathan Rea’s (Pata Prometeon Yamaha) crash in Turn 6. Shortly afterwards instead Bulega places an excellent 1’37.596, the first all-time lap in 1’37” at Jerez in WorldSBK. Razgatlioglu closes the round six tenths behind Bulega while the front row è completed by Alex Lowes who pays exactly one tenth to ‘El Turco’. Bulega makes the Tissot Superpole Award 2024 his, for him è the fourth pole of the season; 606 thousandths è also the widest margin ever recorded in WorldSBK in Superpole at Jerez.

Danilo Petrucci (Barni Spark Racing Team) will openè the second row ahead of Iker Lecuona (Team HRC) and Andrea Locatelli (Pata Prometeon Yamaha), the best Yamaha rider.

Xavi Vierge takes his Honda CBR1000RR-R to the seventh box just three thousandths ahead of van der Mark, followed by Friday’s best in Jerez, namely Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Motocorsa Racing Team). 10° time for Garrett Gerloff (Bonovo Action BMW), the fastest in FP3.
