World Track Championships, Simone Consonni d'silver in the Omnium
Here comes the third medal for Italy at the World Track Cycling Championships. In Denmark, Simone Consonni took the silver medal in the Omnium after a very solid race finished with 138 points, just 12 lengths behind Belgian Lindsay De Vylder who won the gold medal.
After finishing in the top 3 in both the elimination race and the scratch, the Italian rider tried to give the decisive stretch in the points race, running away in the middle part of the race. However, the 30-year-old from Bergamo was reabsorbed by the peloton, and with twenty laps to go, De Vylder took advantage to place the overtake and go into the breakaway.
"I had come here aiming for victory. Forò this metal, in an Olympic specialty, with top-level competition seems to me a good start to start the next four years. In the first part of the race I stayed a little covered, then I tried to score as many points as possible. De Vylder, però, è was moreù good in gaining laps, honor to him for the victory" these are the warm statements of Simone Consonni.
With the silver won by the 30-year-old from Bergamo, Italy equaled the haul of medals collected in the previous edition: a gold, a silver and a bronze.
