Vero Volleyball Milan in Slovenia
The intense period on the court continues for Numia Vero Volley Milano, ready for the first trip of the season in CEV Champions League 24/25. The team led by Stefano Lavarini, in fact, after the double victory in the space of a few days between Europe and the Championship, è left this morning for Ljubljana (Slovenia) where, on Tuesday, November 12 at 18:00 they will face the home team of Calcit Kamnik in the second day of the second leg of the highest continental club competition.
Orro and her teammates, currently leading Pool C, aim to replicate the good result of the first match against FC Porto so as to put even more margin on the other opponents in the group. Calcit è on the other hand, are looking for redemption after they had to surrender to VakifBank Istanbul in Leg 1, snatching a set from the Turks.
The two formations have faced each other before, but never in the Champions League. In fact, the first meeting dates back to the quarterfinals of the 2018-19 CEV Challenge Cup, an edition later won by Milan itself (which at the time was called Saugella Monza). On that occasion, the Consortium’s first women’s team won 3-0 in the first leg and 1-3 in the return, thus gaining a pass to the semifinals. A curiosity: both teams, women's and men's, of Vero Volleyball faced the Slovenian lineup in the same stage and competition. MINT Vero Volleyball Monza, in fact, also è took the field, again in the 2018-19 Challenge Cup, against Kamnik winning both the home and away challenges.
Fourth participation – the second consecutive – in the Champions League for the Slovenian team, which, however, has never won any of its 18 matches so far in the group stage of Europe’s most prestigious competition. Calcit Kamnik, Slovenian champions for the fifth year in a row, is also looking to become the first national team to win a match in Europe, as they and the other compatriot team, Nova KBM Branik Maribor, have lost all 32 matches played altogether.
