Alexander Zverev throws down the gauntlet to Jannik Sinner
Alexander Zverev commented on his ATP Finals debut victory over Andrey Rublev in a press conference: "I think it was a very good match and it was a challenge with very short exchanges. It was very fast tennis and overall I am happy with the win".
"The surface è very slow,& added the world number two, too slow for a hard indoor court. I’m not complaining because I like both slow and fast surfaces. It doesn t matter to me as much. I think in today’s tennis we are losing a little bit’ of playing styles. The reason è that I think clay courts and concrete courts are pretty much all the same. They have almost the same speed, with the exception of two tournaments this year, Cincinnati and Paris Bercy, because theyé are faster".
So he threw down the gauntlet to Jannik Sinner, who was awarded for ending the season as world number one: "Jannik deserves this, è the best in the world, this year he won two Slams and more 1000s than anyone. Of course, I couldn t watch the ceremony becauseé I was preparing for my match. I was warming up, doing my thing, and we went to the field right afterwards. I didn’t know that Boris gave him the trophy and things like that. I think it’s a great moment for him, for Italian tennis. But we’ll see who getsà the trophy next year".
Zverev will be back on court Wednesday night at 8:30 p.m. against Casper Ruud, who surprisingly defeated Carlos Alcaraz. The German and the Norwegian are playing for a spot in the semifinals: Sascha è ahead 3-2 in the previous matches.
