Olimpia Milano, acceleration for reinforcement in the long department
Freddie Gillespie at Olimpia Milano, breakthrough expected next week
The unknowns about Josh Nebo’s recovery time have convinced Olimpia Milano to go back on the market to sign a player with similar characteristics, capable of playing as a center or as a big wing: according to reports from 'Sportando', the number one suspect in this regard is Freddie Gillespie, former Bayern and Red Star player, now with the New Zealand Breakers. The deal would already be almost in the bag.
Class of 1997, Gillespie è grew up basketball-wise at East Ridge High School in Woodbury, Minnesota, before playing at the college level at Carleton between 2015 and 2017 and at top-rated (sports-wise) Baylor between 2018 and 2020. Available for the 2020 NBA Draft, he did not è fall among the sixty picks but did try out for entry into the world's biggest club league through the G-League.
Between 2021 and 2022 he was part of the Memphis Hustle, then peeping into the NBA for short stints first with the Toronto Raptors and then the Orlando Magic. In 2022 he made the move to Europe, with his first full season at Bayern and the second season starting with the Bavarians and ending, from December 2023 onward, at Red Star Belgrade.
On July 25, 2024, he then decided to take another oceanic leap, moving to Australia's only NBL franchise, the New Zealand Breakers. Milan's offer could prove to be an interesting opportunity for him to make a comeback in the Euroleague, the final breakthrough to close the deal è expected next week.
