The beginning of the new year will trace the conclusion of the old one.

Jannik Sinner has the ATP Finals in his sights, to close out an unforgettable 2024 in the best possible way. However he fares in the finals against Taylor Fritz, in any case, he already has an important certainty in hand ahead of 2025. In fact, the South Tyrolean, number 1 in world tennis, will retain his throne even after the first Slam of next season: the Australian Open.

Indeed, 2,000 valid ATP ranking points will be up for grabs in Melbourne. And, although he will be scaled down those won a year ago (replaced, of course, by those he will be able to collect), the advantage already accumulated in the rankings by his pursuers does not allow the latter an overtake against Sinner. In fact, the current second, Alexander Zverev, may find himself at a disadvantage of almost 4,000 points.

Sinner could in fact find himself at 9930, while Zverev would come in at the end of the Australian Open 2025 with a maximum haul of 7915 if he even wins all the points put up for grabs until the Melbourne tournament. In which, consequently, the San Candido champion might not even participate having in any case the guarantee of remaining the number 1 in the world.

There is thus a real prospect that Sinner will show up in Rotterdam, in midà February 2025, still as number 1 in the ATP ranking. By then he will haveà set another personal record: reaching 36 weeks at the top of the world already achieved before him by colleague and rival Carlos Alcaraz. Which però unlike him, were not consecutive.
