Berrettini overwhelmed by Norwegian

Matteo Berrettini’s US Open quarterfinal got off to a very bad start: in fact, the Roman immediately found himself down 5-0 in the first set against a Casper Ruud in perfect physical condition. The Norwegian then closed 6-1.

Even in the second set, the overpowering in the number 5 tennis player on the scoreboard, still in the running to take Daniil Medvedev’s place as number 1 in the Atp ranking, as of Monday, September 12, continued. But at the score of 5-1, the Italian responded by winning three consecutive games and taking a 5-4 lead. The Roman’s comeback was not completed, and he lost the second set 6-4.

The third set was certainly the most hard-fought, with a proud Berrettini trying to stay in the match until the end only to finally surrender at the tie-break, on the score of 7-4.

Ruud thus flew to the semifinals, never reached in the U.S. Slam, imposing 3-0 on the number 13 on the scoreboard, with the scores of 6-1, 6-1, 7-6 (7-4).
