Zverev tells it all about Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz

Alexander Zverev, who was eliminated in the semifinals by Taylor Fritz at the ATP Finals in Turin, despite being ranked second in the world, admitted that he is still distant from Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, who dominated 2024 by winning two Grand Slam tournaments apiece.

The German tennis player at the press conference pointed out what still separates him from the two young stars, who have changed the game in recent years: "Everyone talks about how good Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are defensively, but I don’t think they play much defense anymore. Tennis is no longer based on defense".

"It was soì a few years ago, when tennis was very different, still a little bit’ slower. I think now, 90 percent of the time, you play offensively. It’s a matter of making sure you’re able to keep up on offense with Jannik and Carlos, with the speedà of the groundstrokes".

According to Zverev è it’s a matter of confidence, which the two young prodigies don’t seem to lack: "Don’t back down, go for the hit at the most important moments. È maybe this is where I have also struggled in my career: trusting my shots like they do and going for the points when I get the chance. I think personally that is something I still have to work on compared to them".
