FIFA Awards, Beppe Marotta bitter about Lautaro Martinez

These are the words, in a statement to ANSA, of Inter president Beppe Marotta after the publication of the list of candidates for the Fifa award, in which the Nerazzurri striker does not appear: “È surprising and disappointing that Lautaro Martinez was not considered among the candidates for Fifa’s The Best Man player after an outstanding season".

"His outstanding performances,” Marotta continued, “helped lead Inter to a historic milestone and the Argentine national team to victory in the Copa America. In both competitions è moreover, he was the best scorer in the tournament. Lautaro deserves more respect and recognition".

"This exclusion,” the Nerazzurri executive concluded, “seems to ignore not only the numbers and achievements, but also the impact he has had in decisive matches. This è a negative signal, players who distinguish themselves in such an important way should be rewarded. Hopefully, in the future, proper recognition will be given to those who, like Lautaro, continue to shine on the field”.
