Edwin Coratti gets off to a great start in World Cup parallel
The alpine snowboarding World Cup season opens with the triumph of Edwin Coratti, who in Mylin, China, wins the parallel giant slalom that inaugurated the new winter of the highest circuit.
For the 30-year-old South Tyrolean of the Fiamme Oro it is the sixth career success in the World Cup, the fourth in this discipline: the Venostan’s last success was dated March 2022 with the slalom in Berchtesgaden.
Coratti’s triumphant path had opened in the Chinese morning with the best time in the qualifying round. In the main draw the Italian was then able to overcome in the order Slovenian Zan Kosir in the round of 16 and Italian Mirko Felicetti – then sixth – in the quarters. Success in the semifinals with China’s Ye Bi paved the way for him to the final where he left no chance for Korea’s Sakkyum Kim; third place for another South Korean Sangho Lee.
“È wonderful – were Coratti’s first words – I had the best time in the qualifying round and confirmed myself in the final round as well. I am satisfied with the work I have done in these months, I must say that it worked: the season really could not have started better”. And the blue season could not have started better either: the team coordinated by dt Cesare Pisoni seems intent on immediately resuming the glorious path that in the past season allowed them to win over twenty podiums and the Cup for Nations.
As mentioned, sixth place for Mirko Felicetti, winning in the round of 16 over Korean Wan-Hee Cho while Maurizio Bormolini è had to surrender in the first round against Bi himself, tenth place for him.
Victory for Ester Ledecka in the women’s event: the Czech champion beat Poland’s Aleksandra Krol-Walas in the final with Japan’s Tsubaki Miki in third place.
It è ended in the quarters for the sixth final place instead the path of Elisa Caffont, the only Italian to pass the first round of the scoreboard: after getting the better of the Ukrainian Dancha in the round of 16, Caffont è had to surrender to the same Krol-Walas who had previously also overcome Jasmin Coratti (15th); eliminated in the round of 16 also Lucia Dalmasso (ninth), out in the challenge with Claudia Riegler
Earlier, the qualifying round had seen Aaron March finish 17th, followed by Gabriel Messner (25th), with Roland Fischnaller 29th, Daniele Bagozza 33rd, Marc Hofer 42nd and Fabian Lantschner 48th; 25th place instead for Elisa Fava.
Tomorrow on the same track è a parallel slalom is scheduled: qualifying from 2:45 a.m. Italian time, final stage from 7:30 a.m.
