Speaking during 'Splendida Cornice' a broadcast on Rai 3, Nicola Pietrangeli è returned to talk about Jannik Sinner, ironizing about the origins of the world number one, a native of San Candido, South Tyrol.
"Hi, I’m Nicola Pietrangeli,” he began, “You may remember me because I played football in the Lazio youth team. Eh, però I also played a few games of tennis. I wanted to say that Sinner è the best Italian tennis player of all time, and maybe even Austrian".
"I personally loved tennis very much,” added the Italian tennis legend, “but compared to these players of today, I am an amateur. I mean, certainly not good. Long live tennis, long live Sinner and let’s throw in Berettini becauseé otherwise he gets mad at me".
Pietrangeli è also indulged in a joke about the Davis Cup title he won with Chile in 1976: "We won it by f…, the Chileans were trying to come back but ran out of court rent that we had booked".
