Milan Premier Padel P1, Italian derby in the first round
One more week before the Premier Padel Finals in Barcelona. At the Allianz Cloud, from Monday 2 to Sunday 8, the Milan Premier Padel P1 will put up for grabs the last 1,000 points in the FIP Race that will complete the list of the magnificent 16 players and 16 players who will be on stage in Spain from December 19 to 22 for the final leg of an exciting season. The draw has defined the road to the finals, to be able to write one's name in the Milan Premier Padel P1 roll of honor after those of Juan Lebron and Ale Galan (winners of the men's tournament) and Delfi Brea and Bea Gonzalez, champions of the women's tournament in 2023.
Like two years ago, there will be an Italian derby in the first round. The draw made today at Allianz Cloud pitted Marco Cassetta and Miguel Angel Solbes against the all-Italian pair of Lorenzo Di Giovanni (present at the draw) and Riccardo Sinicropi. Cassetta and Di Giovanni, who were part of the Italian team that è finished fourth in the last FIP World Padel Championships in Doha, also faced each other in the first round in the first edition of the Milan Premier Padel P1, the one in 2022; Cassetta played with Cremona, Di Giovanni with Cattaneo. Finì 6-3 6-3 for Cremona/Cassetta. Simone Cremona will play this year with Spaniard Jaime Fermosell and, in the first round, finds Spaniard Emilio Sanchez Chamero and Chilean Javi Valdes.
Pending the conclusion of qualifying, all the Italians admitted to the main draw are in the top half: Aris Patiniotis and Jesus Moya drew Luis Hernandez and Javi Rico; for Facundo Dominguez and Nacho Piotto there are Alvaro Melendez and Cristian Gutierrez. In the women’s draw, on the other hand, there will be four Italians in the main draw waiting for the qualifiers: wild cards Martina Parmigiani and Chiara Pappacena drew Noemi Aguilar and Teresa Navarro, while Italy’s No. 1 Carolina Orsi paired with Spain’s Nuria Rodriguez.finds Sandra Bellver and Barbara Las Heras. For Giorgia Marchetti and Lea Godallier, finally, the duel with Bea Caldera and Lorena Rufo.
The last tournament board consists of 48 pairs, with the 16 seeds qualifying directly to the second round. Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia, the world No. 1s already sure to end the season at the top of the FIP ranking, will face José Solano Marmolejo and Victor Mena or two qualifiers; for Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan (2) there are Alvaro Cepero and Miguel Benitez or a pair from the qualifiers. Also among the big boys are Martin Di Nenno and Juan Lebron (3) against two qualifiers or Victor and Javi Ruiz.
Instead, there will be 32 pairs starting in the women’s tournament. Paula Josemaria and Ari Sanchez will start against a qualified pair; Gemma Triay and Claudia Fernandez (2) drew Ana Catarina Nogueira and Laia Rodriguez instead. Marta Talavan and Julieta Bidahorria will be the first opponents of the defending champions.
In Milan, for the first time, the Premier Padel circuit tournament will have its own dedicated app. The official Milan Premier Padel P1 app, available on both the App Store and Google Play Store, will follow every moment of the tournament interactively: the app provides up-to-date news, a media gallery, the ability to buy tickets, view the Allianz Cloud map and player list, live results, and more.
