Paulo Fonseca, backstory on yellow card.
Paulo Fonseca explains the yellow card
He was looking for answers, Paulo Fonseca, after a few too many risks he took against Slovan Bratislava in the Champions League: those answers came on Saturday, late in the afternoon, when Milan beat Empoli with a clear 3-0, playing a brilliant game in attack and careful in defense, as the Portuguese coach himself pointed out to the microphones of 'Dazn'.
"It' ended 3-0 but for what we created we could also have won with a wider gap, we could have scored 6 or 7 goals,” said Fonseca. “We didn't take risks, I perceived in defense the same sensations as in the game against Juventus. In attack, however, we were as effective as against Slovan".
The Rossoneri coach, shortly after the 1-0 scoreline, è was the protagonist of vehement protests with referee Dionisi, which led the latter to pull out a yellow card: "I did not want to talk about the referee, but I answer the question – Fonseca pointed out. At that moment, in my opinion, he had made a wrong decision and it made me so angry".
No strategic choice to keep the tension high after the lead goal, in short, but a protest over the yellow to Gabbia seconds earlier and a subsequent whistle in Empoli's favor. For Fonseca, however, è the only blemish in a match that brings the Rossoneri closer to the top positions: "We have to keep creating a lot, if we play like this; we can get great results" he said.
