After Charles Leclerc, Alexander Albon and Franco Colapinto will also face a grid penalty. The two Williams drivers, accomplice to accidents in the first free practice session, were forced to replace the gearbox, thus exceeding the maximum components allowed by regulation.
Ahead of the GP, therefore, both the Thai and the Argentine will have to serve a penalty of five positions each.
"The penaltyà è an unfortunate consequence of the incidents that occurred during last week’s GP and were beyond Alex and Franco’s control. Despite the bad start to the weekend, we will give our best to end the season on a positive note" this is the statement issued by Williams.
More severe, however, is the penalty received by Charles Leclerc, who will have to serve as many as 10 positions for fitting a new battery pack. That penalty, in addition, could prove decisive in the fight between Ferrari and McLaren for the Constructors’ title.
