Lucia Dalmasso wins Yanqing parallel giant

Lucia Dalmasso wins among the women, Maurizio Bormolini è second among the men with Mirko Felicetti third: the parallel giant in Yanqing (China) still sees absolute protagonists the Azzurri who take their third success in as many days of competition so far in the season.

After the’one-two signed by Coratti and Bormolini in the Mylin stage last week, today è it was Lucia Dalmasso’s turn to make the Mameli anthem resound in the Chinese parterre. The Bellunese of the Fiamme Gialle è took her second career victory following her victory in Scuol, also in giant slalom, at the beginning of 2024. Fourth in the preliminary round, the Venetian reached the decisive act overcoming in order Japan’s Takeuchi, her color partner Jasmin Coratti (then eighth) and the other Japanese Tsubaki Miki to then get the better of Austria’s Sabine Payer in the final. The total number of podiums for the Venetian thus rises to six, including four in the giant slalom.
Having said the eighth place of Jasmin Coratti, the Italian team can also celebrate the seventh of Elisa Caffont, out in the quarters against Miki herself, then third at the end of the challenge in the small final with Slovenian Kotnik.

For the second consecutive race, two Italians are on the men’s podium: only a mistake in the lower part of the Chinese course prevented Maurizio Bormolini from giving himself a prestigious double in the final with Slovenian Tim Mastnak. The Livignasco man appeared from the start to be launched toward success, but his second place still keeps him on a podium (the 12th in his career) that also finds Mirko Felicetti, winner of the small final against Andreas Prommegger of Austria after giving way to. Mstnak in the semifinals, in a round that saw both protagonists close prematurely. Also for the Trentino from Val di Fassa, the tally of individual podiums in the top circuit thus rises to 12.

Bormolini’s journey had begun by overcoming Daniele Bagozza (10th) in the round of 16, then Korea’s Lee in the quarters and Prommegger in the semifinals, with Felicetti winning in the first round over another Korean Lee and in the quarters over teammate Aaron March (seventh) before the uncertain challenge with Mastnak. Sixteenth place then for Edwin Coratti, out in the round of 16 against the same Lee. Roland Fischnaller, 27th, had not qualified, however. On Sunday, Dec. 8, the Yanqing stage is completed with a double parallel slalom, the final stage è scheduled at 6:30 a.m. Italian.

Lucia Dalmasso’s happiness after her second career World Cup victory came on the track in Yanqing, China. “I had so much fun today – recounted at the finish line the 27-year-old from Belluno in Falcade, a member of the Fiamme Gialle -. The course was great, they were really tough challenges and it took a day like that! It could not go, now I try to stay focused for the slalom on Sunday”.

Still on the podium (for the 12th time in his career) Maurizio Bormolini, after last week’s win in Mylin. “I am overjoyed – explains the alpine from Livigno -, it was a difficult race and to fight until the end, I made it. In the final I got hung up on a gate and made a mistake, I hope to continue like this in the rest of the season”.

Who returns to the podium almost a year after’last time è Mirko Felicetti: “I did not expect this third place, I changed materials at the beginning of the season and I did not think I would find a good feeling soì soon. It’ went well, I only regret how I lost the semifinal to Mastnak who then won, I congratulate the whole team and thank those who support me”.

Also satisfied is technical director Cesare Pisoni: “It’ was another great performance of the boys, in the men’ race we could have even made a double. We are leading in both giant slalom rankings with Dalmasso and Coratti, while Bormolini leads the overall parallel ranking. It’ s the fruit of the staff working at the melgio with an incredible group, after two weeks in China everyone was extremely motivated. È a great thing to see these guys having fun and especially taking turns on the podium”.
