Mikaela Shiffrin, recovery time after surgery uncertain: season at risk

Season at risk for American outfielder
During an interview given to the microphones of "Racing Ski Media", Mikaela Shiffrin wanted to provide an update regarding her physical condition after the surgery performed on her abdomen. Regarding the recovery time, in addition, the American skier would not rule out a priori the possibility of having to stay in the pits for the entire season.
"At the moment I do not feel like making predictions. Unfortunately, it is a deep cut injury with severe muscle trauma. I was really lucky becauseé it was probably very little space from the colon. The wound was not able to drain the fluid from my body so that it could heal and that's the reason why, in agreement with the doctors, we decided to go ahead with surgery. We discovered a pocket of fluid that had not been touched by the wound aspirator" began the American skier.
"Now è it is difficult to say for sure whether she will be able to return to the slopes this season. I think if everything went perfectly and all the drainage was eliminated, we would be quite able to finish timing and schedules for the season. There is not a lot of history of this kind of injury in our sport: acute oblique strains involve minor problems in other disciplines, but not in skiing, because when you think about the strength of a giant slalom turn, slalom or SuperG è it is hard to know what the muscle can take. I think every day we will have a clearer view of the season, but the return to the track will depend solely on how she improves in the coming weeks or months" added the U.S. outfielder.
"There’è a good deal of luck involved. On the one hand, you make your own luck with preparation and hard work. On the’other hand, I am grateful that I did not suffer more trauma. I have had a lot of luck in my career. You can’see how easy it is to make mistakes and how hard it is to get to the finish line with a fast time every day. I am thankful for the many times I managed to do it" concluded Mikaela Shiffrin.
