Paolo Scaroni gets out of line on the future of Milan
Scaroni’s words
Paolo Scaroni, president of AC Milan, è spoke to Radio TV Serie A with RDS within the format Goal Economy, curated by Marco Bellinazzo: "I was the first president of an Italian team in Serie A that was foreign-owned. I was president of Vicenza, which was in A and was back from winning the Coppa Italia, the most important triumph in its history. It was a’time when I was living in England, Vicenza was owned by an English public company, they asked me to be president because I’m from Vicenza and for three years I tried my hand at this role, with great joy and satisfaction. Perhaps è it was one of the reasons why I landed at Milan".
" I have the impression that in these twenty years Serie A has lost some strokes, it has not kept up with the growth that the other European leagues and in particular the English league have had. Twenty years ago Serie A was the benchmark league in the world of soccer, today it isn’t anymore. Today there’è the Premier and UEFA cups if anything. As attractivenessà in the world Serie A è dropped. The English league collects more than 2 billion from international TV rights, we barely 200 million. È in this figure lies much of the difference".
"We through Milan Futuro are making a big bet on young people, è an important investment economically, which we are convinced we want to make, also this è an investment for the future. In soccer not always all designs lead to a result in the short term, but I am confident. È clear that we are here to win, è our goal, have faith our fans that we only think about winning games".
Stadium chapter: "I certainly do not want to absolve politics and much less the politics of the municipality of Milan becauseé the project we are working on today è the twin brother of the one six years ago and although six years have passed, nothing è has happened. However, I have to say è that è the vision of citizens has also changed, politicians want to be voted in, I remember in 2018 how many people told me “you want to throw downù san siro, the most beautiful stadium in the world” and I responded by referring to modern stadiums, San Siro è beautiful, but you canè better. Not è San Siro, but it is Milan and Inter that are iconic. Where we go we become iconic. The concept of the new that è more beautiful than the existing has made its way into the heads of the Italians and the Milanese also because when turning on the television, the fans see the Europeans in Germany for example, they see beautiful stadiums, different from what we have in Italy. è it was a process not only of politics but also of the Italians and the Milanese who realized that the San Siro stadium where they used to go with their father or grandfather and where they have beautiful memories è beautiful, but è better to have a new one. The San Donato è plan has gone from A to B since the superintendence removed what seemed like a constraint that seemed difficult to remove and that is; a renovation of the Meazza alongside the construction of a new stadium. This è was a key step (I would like to thank the mayor) and one that we have behind us. Now begins a process of negotiation because we (and I mean the two Milan clubs) have to buy the stadium, the areas around the stadium, have permits to build activities ancillary to the stadium. I am talking for example about the Milan and Inter headquarters, museums and so on that will come today in the area occupied by Meazza. So we are negotiating a contract with the City of Milan, which of course will have to be perfect, because it’s such a visible and important operation for the city and for all of us that it has to be a perfect operation. Personally, I must say that I have a certain optimism".
