Double blue podium in ski cross in San Candido, the birthplace of Jannik Sinner
Second place for Jole Galli and third place for Simone Deromedis: è double blue podium in the second freestyle ski cross World Cup challenge in San Candido, in the province of Bolzano, the locality where è Jannik Sinner was born. Third podium of the season for Deromedis, who in the previous stages had been able to impose himself in Val Thorens to seize a second place at night in Arosa: thus rises to nine the spoils of podiums in the maximum circuit for the 24-year-old from Val di Non. Thirteenth in qualifying, Deromedis was able to impose himself in his own battery and then close in the wake of German Wilmsmann the following fourth.
In the semifinals, the rainbow champion è was good and lucky to take advantage of the error that cut off Wilmsmann himself and Sweden's David Mobärg, to thus gain access to the main final. The decisive round è was literally dominated by Canada's Reece Howden, ready to overtake the experienced Swiss Alex Fiva with Deromedis good at taking third place from the start and then not giving it up again, despite attempts by Austria's Johannes Aujesky. In the small final there's room for Federico Tomasoni who è seventh to take the best result of the season, after an excellent qualification – sixth time for him – and successes in the eighth and fourth. Thirteenth place then for Davide Cazzaniga, second in Tomasoni’s wake in the battery and then out in the quarters; while Dominik Zuech è went out during the third eighth of the final.
Bordering on exemplary was the performance of Jole Galli, who thus returned to the World Cup podium after her only experience in February 2023, when she was third in Reiteralm. In between the serious ligament injury suffered at the opening of last season that forced her into a long competitive break, interrupted only a few weeks ago on the same Val Thorens snows. And after her fourth place on the French snows, the Carabiniere from Livigno è gives herself the best result of her career today in San Candido. Second in both the quarters and semifinals, in the decisive round Jole Galli was able to take full advantage of the contact between Canada’s India Sherret and France’s Marielle Berger Sabbatel, which opened wide for her the way to the podium.
The Italian woman è kept in the wake of German Daniela Maier, ready to repeat the previous day’s success ahead of an excellent Galli. Third place then for Berger Sabbatel. After the San Candido stage, Simone Deromedis climbs to 285 points to occupy third place in the overall World Cup standings, a ranking led by Wilmsmann with 310 points ahead of Howden (296); the double Puster success launches Maier (369) to the top of the women's standings followed by Sherret (325) and the other Canadian Thompson (320); sixth place for Jole Galli with 225 points. The next Skicross Cdm event è scheduled in Reiteralm, Austria, starting Jan. 14.
