Val Gardena downhill: Marco Odermatt smiles, men’s blue skiing a little less so
On the Saslong, downhill, Marco Odermatt triumphs
The second downhill of the season in the men's Alpine Ski World Cup rewards Marco Odermatt, his first victory in the discipline this year and third overall after successes in Beaver Creek in Super-G and Val d'Isère in the giant slalom. The Swiss finished the long downhill in Val Gardena with a time of 2:03.10, ahead of compatriot Franjo von Allmen by 45 cemtesim.
Rounding out the podium is American Ryan Cochran-Siegle, who missed second place by just one hundredth (+0.46 from Odermatt), another hundredths further back is Frenchman Nils Allegre, who only came close to placing in the top three by finishing fourth. By 50 hundredths from the winner è the delay of Slovenian Martin Cater, fifth at the finish.
After Friday’s satisfaction with his success in the supergiant, Mattia Casse confirmed himself as the best among the Italians but this time he did not go beyond 14th position, 82 hundredths behind Odermatt. Even further back are the other Azzurri: Dominik Paris è 25th at 1.15, Christof Innerhofer è 27th at 1.21.
Outside the top thirty the other Azzurri in the race: Benjamin Jacques Alliod è thirty-fourth at 1.30 from Odermatt, Nicolò Molteni fortieth at 1.55, Florian Schieder forty-fourth at 1.72, Pietro Zazzi forty-ninth at 2.02, Giovanni Franzoni fifty-ninth at 2.94.
