Zampano-Sverko, Venezia gets back on its feet: Cagliari knocked out

Venice-Cagliari 2-1

Venezia returned to winning ways and did so in the delicate salvation clash with Cagliari, valid for the seventeenth day of Serie A. At the Penzo, the arancioneroverdi beat the rossoblù by a narrow margin, thanks to goals by Zampano, in the final of the first half, and Sverko, halfway through the second half. Pavoletti’s goal for the Sardinians was to no avail.

Blocked match until the half’hour when the first chance of the match comes for the guests with Mina who frames to perfection on Augello’s free kick but Stankovic saves with his head. On 39’ the hosts go ahead at the first real chance: Oristanio sows panic on the left and puts in the center for Zampano who beats Sherri at the first post.

In the resumption, orange-greens were immediately dangerous first with Pohjanpalo and then with Idzes but the redblù were saved. In 62’ the lagooners doubled with Oristanio but the referee canceled for offside by Pohjanpalo, author of the assist. In 68’, however, came Venezia’s 2-0 with Sverko slipping a left-footed shot past Sherri. Eight minutes later Cagliari tried to open it again with a winning header by the newly entered Pavoletti. In the final forcing of the Sardinians but Stankovic overcomes first on Lapadula and then on Felici.

Thanks to this victory, Venezia climbs to 13 points in the standings, -1 right behind Cagliari, which remains stuck at 14, in third’last position.
