Helmut Marko explains the reasons behind not promoting Yuki Tsunoda
During an interview given to the microphones of "Kleine Zeitung", Red Bull adviser Helmut Marko, among other topics, explained the reasons behind the Austrian team’s decision to promote Liam Lawson as Max Verstappen’s teammate at the expense of the more experienced Yuki Tsunoda.
"We decided to bet on Liam, becauseè è he is the one who canè go best alongside Max, whom no one canè beat anyway. He has great mental strength and we believe he has the greatest potential to grow further" began the Red Bull advisor.
"For Yuki it willà definitely be a disappointing decision. His speedà è unquestionable, but he lacks consistency and tends to be too emotional. In the coming season, forò he will be the spearhead of Racing Bulls and will haveà a chance to show off" continued the former Austrian driver.
"I consider Isack a very fast driver, but also very impulsive, and this could be interesting for the team. With his signing we opted to promote one of our Junior Team drivers. I am sure it is the right way" added the Graz native.
"There'é has been some decline in his performance, but the overall balance of Checo’s five years è absolutely positive. In 2021, he contributed a lot to Max’s first world title and in total he won 5 GPs and was second in the drivers’ championship, but now something between this car and his driving style was no longer right," concluded Helmut Marko regarding Sergio Perez.
