Gianluigi Quinzi dreams of one last match against Jannik Sinner
Quinzi’s words
Gianluigi Quinzi gave a long interview to the Gazzetta dello Sport to talk about his new life: "Now that I am a coach and I am in contact especially with kids, I understand that many times that of parents with their childrenès sport; a sick relationship. Maybe they lose a couple of games in a row and immediately dadà and mom ask to change the coaching system, threaten to take them somewhere else, they don’t accept that each one has its own time of maturation, they want the all and now. So, if I have to give an overall answer, I admit that parents’ expectations are often an obstacle to their children“;
“Coaching è a very delicate role, you don’t just coach. Look at Sinner: Vagnozzi and Cahill are his second family, they have protected him in difficult times. Unfortunately, I see kids who at 18 are already emotionally exhausted by tennis without having achieved anything yet. So I try not to make them make my own mistakes, which then were perhaps not mistakes, rather bad choices. So my philosophy è simple: victory in sé counts for nothing if it is not è accompanied by work on themselves of personal and technical growth. And then they must never stop having fun. If you don’t have fun anymore, è it’s time to do something else“.
On bidding farewell to played tennis: “Simply one day I woke up and realized that beyond what I had already given, I could no longer go. And I changed my path. Maybe the Slam that I didn’t win as a player I will conquer as a coach, and maybe that would be an even greater satisfaction“.
"If I were to play again? Definitely I would like to do it on the Wimbledon Central and definitely against Sinner, the strongest in the world. Even though he would take me by storm".
