Anna Kalinskaya's 2025 begins with a smile: the Moscow tennis player in fact won, in partnership with Australian Priscilla Hon, a place in the semifinals of the Brisbane doubles tournament, defeating in the quarterfinals, in two sets, the pair formed by Taiwanese Chan Hao-Ching and Ukrainian Lyudmyla Kichenok.
7-6(4), 6-2 è the final score in favor of the Kalinskaya/Hon pair, at the end of a match concluded after one hour and twenty-five minutes of play. The winning duo risked only in the final of the first set, when they è went down 6-5, recovering then in the 12th game and imposing themselves in the tie-break. More linear was the trend in the second fraction, which began with a 4-0 lead that proved decisive.
In the semifinals, Anna Kalinskaya and Priscilla Hon will face Hungary's Timea Babos and Nicole Melichar-Martinez of the United States, who in their quarterfinal match got the better of the Chinese pair of Xu Yifan and Yank Zhaoxuan with a rather straightforward 6-1, 6-4 win. The match will be played on Friday, starting no earlier than 4:30 a.m. Italian time.
In the other semifinal, however, the pair formed by Russians Mirra Andreeva and Diana Shnaider, who defeated the one composed of Paula Badosa and Ons Jabeur 6-2, 6-3, and the all-Japanese duo formed by Shuko Aoyama and Eri Hozumi, who instead beat Kazakhstan’s Anna Danilina and Russia’s Irina Khromacheva 6-0, 6-4.
