Jannik Sinner, unveiled on debut day at Australian Open

Jannik Sinner will make his debut on Monday, Jan. 13 at the Australian Open. Announcing it è was the Australian Slam itself through its social channels. In fact, on the X profile of the Australian Open, è a post appeared with a list of matches that will be held on Monday, including that of the South Tyrolean.

The world number one will begin his title defense with Chilean Nicolas Jarry, number 34 in the ATP rankings, presumably on Rod Laver Arena. The time of play has not yet been disclosed, we will have to wait until Sunday to find out whether the Azure will play during the Italian night or in the morning.

There are two precedents between Sinner and Jarry: the first one was played in the round of 16 of the 'ATP 250 in 's-Hertogenbosch 2019 and the Chilean won (7-6 6-3), while the most recent one dates back to the round of 16 of the ATP 500 in Beijing last year, with the Italian winning in three sets (4-6 6-3 6-1).

Sinner comes into the match with Jarry with two wins out of two in the Australian Open Opening Week exhibition matches: the South Tyrolean defeated both Alexei Popyrin (6-4 7-6) and Stefanos Tsitsipas (6-3 7-6) in two sets, already demonstrating an excellent level of play.
