Inter suffers but passes in Venice: nerazzurri second

Inter suffers but wins in Venice and clinches its sixth consecutive league victory. Inzaghi’s team dominated in the first hour but after Darmian’s lead wasted several times the double and risked in the final game against the penultimate in the standings. Thanks to this success, the Nerazzurri climb to second place on 43 points, bypassing Atalanta, while Di Francesco's team è still stuck on 14 points.

First half of the Nerazzurri brand, Simone Inzaghi’s team è in full control but failed to close the file in the first 45' after Darmian’s lead. The Nerazzurri defender’s goal came on 16': on a throw from the back Lautaro Martinez hooks beautifully and engages Stankovic, on the rebound Darmian è the fastest of all. The match seems to be going downhill for the Italian champions, who come close several times to doubling the score with Taremi, Lautaro Martinez and Asllani, who all sinned d'inaccuracy.

The second half seemed to change the score, the Lagosians starting out significantly better and engaging Sommer with Oristanio and Doumbia. Up front still Taremi and Lautaro lack concreteness, and half an hour from the end Inzaghi decides to insert Thuram for Taremi and Frattesi for Asllani.

Inter controlled but did not close the game and risked paying dearly for it: at 74' the post saved Sommer on Busio’s conclusion. Inzaghi inserted Arnautovic for Lautaro and Pavard for Dumfries, but the Nerazzurri suffered the Venice forcing in the final minutes of the match. Di Francesco in the last minutes plays desperation cards, inserting Gytkjaer and Condé, but the Italian champions manage and Sommer runs no particular danger until the triple whistle.
