Australian Open begins with comeback success for Novak Djokovic

Australian Open: Novak Djokovic-Nishesh Basavareddy 4-6 6-3 6-4 6-2

Novak Djokovic's adventure at the Australian Open 2025 began with a comeback victory. The Serbian tennis player, in fact, overcame the American Nishesh Basavareddy in four sets with a score of 4-6 6-3 6-4 6-2.

In the first set, after a balanced start, the U.S. placed the decisive breakthrough in the sixth game thanks to a partial break of three consecutive games. On the strength of the break lead, it became a formality for Basavareddy è to close the score on 6-4.

The second set developed along the lines of the first, but in the closing stages è Djokovic to be more incisive. In the seventh game, in fact, the Serb manages to find three consecutive games that allow him to win the partial set 6-3.

The third set starts immediately in the best way for the world number seven, who manages to find the break in the opening game. At that point, the American tried to regain the disadvantage, but the Belgrade native managed to stay ahead in the score until the final 6-4.

In the fourth and final set, Djokovic raised the level of his tennis and locked up the victory thanks to a six-games-to-one lead in the first seven games. Bolstered by the wide lead, the Serb closed easily with a score of 6-2.

In the second round, the former world number one will face Portugal's Jaime Faria.
