Sofia Goggia triumphs in Cortina, podium for Federica Brignone!

Great Saturday for the Italian women downhill skiers in Cortina d'Ampezzo. Sofia Goggia triumphed in the downhill on the Olympia slope of the Tofane, dominating the race valid for the women’s Alpine Ski World Cup. The skier from Bergamo beat by 42 hundredths the Norwegian Kajsa Vickhoff Lie.

Excellent third place for Federica Brignone from Aosta Valley, who finished 45 hundredths behind Goggia. Thanks to this success, Sofia joined Isolde Kostner at the top of the list of the most successful Italian athletes in Cortina (four victories): moreover, for her è the 26th success in the World Cup.

Fourth place for Swiss Lara Gut-Behrami. Sofia Goggia had not won in the downhill for over a year due to the serious injury suffered last season: her success è a good omen on the track that will host the Olympic race in a year.

Lindsey Vonn finished only 20th due to a mistake in the race finale. Brignone thanks to her third place è now leads the overall standings ahead of Swiss Rast.
