Bolelli/Vavassori to quarters, Errani/Paolini duo halts

Victory with double 7-5 for Russian pair Andreeva/Shnaider
Good news comes from Melbourne regarding the men’s doubles draw. Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori have reached the quarterfinals. The Italian pair, the number 3 seed on the scoreboard, è imposed themselves on the Spanish pair Martinez/Munar in two sets: 6-3, 7-6 the partials in favor of the Italian duo).
Victory came in one hour and 49 minutes of play. After a good first set, the Azzurri had to save a set point in the second partial, before celebrating the passage to the next round. For Bolelli/Vavassori this is the second consecutive year in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open.
Chewing bitterly, however, were Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini. The Azzurri, the No. 4 seed in the women’s draw, surrendered to the Russian pair Andreeva/Shnaider in two sets (7-5, 7-5 the partials). The rematch of the doubles final of the Paris Olympics thus smiles on the Russians, who take a nice rematch.
Especially bad was Jasmine Paolini, probably still conditioned by the bad elimination suffered in the singles. Regret remains especially for having thrown away several opportunities in the first partial with the Italian pair that had managed to lead 4-2, before suffering two decisive breaks. Also eliminated was the Bronzetti/Kalinina pair from the Siegemund/Haddad Maia duo.
