Australian Open: Keys and Swiatek in semifinals

On the Italian night, the picture of the semifinals of the Australian Open women’s draw was set. In the first of the two quarterfinals played on Rod Laver Arena, Madison Keys beat Elina Svitolina, who had eliminated Jasmine Paolini in the round of 16, in a comeback.

3-6 6-3 6-4 the final score in favor of the U.S. accrued after nearly two hours of play. Keys, freshly crowned champion in Adelaide, extended her streak of consecutive victories, hitting her 10th win in a row that allowed her to return to the semifinals in Melbourne after 10 years.

On the other side of the net she will find WTA number two Iga Swiatek, who got rid of Emma Navarro, the eighth seed, with a clear 6-1 6-2 after an hour and a half of play. Clear path so far for the Polish player, who did not drop a single set throughout the tournament and reached her second semifinal in the Australian Slam.

In the other semifinal, Aryna Sabalenka and Paula Badosa will compete. The world number one and defending champion in Melbourne overcame Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in three sets (6-2 2-6 6-3), while the Spaniard surprisingly eliminated world number three Coco Gauff (7-5 6-4).
