Australian Open, Madison Keys parties: Aryna Sabalenka down from throne

Madison Keys wins Australian Open
It's Madison Keys the winner of the 2025 edition of the Australian Open. The U.S. athlete, who currently occupies the 14th position in the ranking but è bound to rise inevitably from Monday, has in fact won the first slam of the season (and her first ever, in her career) by beating Aryna Sabalenka, the defending champion.
It took Keys three sets to get the better of the Russian champion: 6-3, 2-6, 5-7 were the partials of a match that lived of escapes and counter-escapes, at the end of which it was the almost 30-year-old from Rock Island who prevailed, thus imposing herself for the first time in one of the four most important tournaments of the season.
For Sabalenka, therefore, great bitterness after the two hours and change of the match: the Russian athlete had won the Australian Open in 2023, beating Kazakh Elena Rybakina in the final, and in 2024, defeating Chinese Zheng Quinwen in the final act. In her career, Sabalenka also has success in the 2024 U.S. Open to her credit.
Madison Keys thus concluded her journey in Melbourne victoriously: on her way she overcame compatriot Li in the first round and, in succession, Romanian Ruse, the other American Collins, 2023 finalist Rybakina, Ukrainian Svitolina and then, between the semifinals and finals, the world top two, Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka.
