Champions League: promoted, failed and “put off.” All the verdicts

Champions League, all League Phase verdicts

Eight teams straight to the round of 16, sixteen to the extra round of playoffs, twelve straight home. The League Phase of the Champions League delivered its verdicts after eighteen matches played at the same time on Wednesday evening, and it did not lack more than a few surprises, in an evening full of excitement and goals, as many as 64 in total.

To win the round è Liverpool, which forò just on the last day loses its unbeaten streak against PSV, which thanks to the 3-2 signed Bakayoko, Saibari and Pepi (for the Reds the goals are, however, by Gakpo and Elliott) closes in turn in 14th place, qualifying for the playoffs. Also in the round of 16 are Barcelona after a 2-2 draw at Atalanta (which, however, goes to the extra round) and Arsenal, which routed Girona (2-1 with Jorginho on a penalty kick and Nwaneri, Catalans netted by Danjuma and eliminated), as well as Inter Milan, a 3-0 winner against Monaco, which goes to the playoffs.

Also straight to the round of 16 were Atletico Madrid, which won 4-1 in Salzburg (Giuliano Simeone, Griezmann twice and Llorente in goal, Austrians in goal with Daghim and eliminated), Bayer Leverkusen, which defeated Sparta Prague 2-0 (Wirtz and Tella scored, the Czechs were already out of the qualification discourse), Lille, which overwhelms Feyenoord with a menacing 6-1 (Sahraoui, two own goals by Trauner, Angel Gomes, David and Cabella for LOSC, Gimenez scoring for the Rotterdam team, which goes to the playoffs) and finally l'Aston Villa, which overcame Celtic 4-2 (Rogers scored three times and Watkins, who also missed a penalty, while for the Scots, who go to the playoffs, Idah’s brace was notable).

Also going to the playoffs are Borussia Dortmund (beating Shakhtar 3-1 with Guirassy’s double and Bensebaini’s goal; for the Ukrainians, Marlon Gomes scored but elimination came), Real Madrid and Brest (in the direct clash, the Blancos won 3-0, Rodrygo scored twice and Bellingham), Bayern Munich beating the already eliminated Slovan Bratislava (Muller, Kane and Coman in goal, Tolic scoring for the Slovaks), AC Milan despite a 2-1 loss to Dinamo Zagreb (eliminated by only one point), PSG overcoming Stuttgart 4-1, eliminating the very Germans (Barcola and Dembel&eacute’s hat trick; for the Parisians, Fuhrich’s goal in the final being useless), Benfica and Juventus after the Eagles’ 2-0 win at home to Juventus, Manchester City and Club Brugge (3-1 in the direct clash, with the Belgians leading with Onyedika and the Citizens’ comeback with Kovacic, Ordones's own goal and Savinho’s goal) and finally Sporting, after the 1-1 draw against Bologna already eliminated.

Also out of the competition are Sturm Graz and Leipzig (in the match between the two, the Austrians came out on top 1-0, with Malic scoring), as well as Young Boys and Red Star, with the latter winning 1-0 in the match played in Bern thanks to Guelor Kanga’s decisive goal.
