A former Varese for Trieste Basketball

Pallacanestro Trieste announced that it has signed an agreement with Sean McDermott, an American athlete class '96, who returns to Italy after a stint at Pinar Karsiyaka, in the Turkish BSL. A 198cm wing, who has dressed the jersey of Varese Basketball, also as captain in the 2023-2024 season, Sean adds versatility to the red and white roster.

Born in Anderson, Indiana, Sean began his basketball journey at Pendleton Heights High School, where he finished his senior year averaging 16.0 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. After his brilliant high school career, he landed at Butler University, where he spent five years steadily growing. With the Bulldogs he distinguished himself for his skill in three-point shooting, maintaining a percentage above 40% during his NCAA experience. In his final college season he put up 11.7 points and 6.3 rebounds average, numbers that attracted the&nbsp39;attention of the NBA world.

In September 2020 he signed a two-way contract with the Memphis Grizzlies, with whom he took the court on 18 occasions, recording 2.2 points in 8.8 minutes of average. At the same time he plays 6 games in G-League with the Memphis Hustle, where he highlights himself with 17.8 points and 4.5 rebounds average per contest. In the next two seasons he continued his professional adventure just with the Memphis Hustle, signing a contract as affiliate player. In the 2021-2022 championship he averaged 8.4 points with an excellent 43.6% in three-point shooting while in the following season he took the court for 39 games, finishing with an average 9.8 points per contest.

He made his European debut with the Varese jersey, with which he signed in July 2023. With the Lombardi he has an exhilarating season, scoring 13.9 points per game with over 57% from two-point range plus 40% from the arc. Performances that, combined with his leadership skills, also earned him the designation as team captain.

In June of last year, the Turkish sirens of Pinar Karsiyaka convinced him to land in the province of Izmir, where he plays in addition to BSL also a Champions League, which for does not give satisfaction to coach Tamsoz men eliminated at the Play-in last January 15. He closes his adventure in Turkey without proving his real value, seen instead in Varese, with 6.3 points per game with 30% from three.
