ATP Rotterdam: Felix Auger-Aliassime withdraws, Andrea Vavassori passes and finds Carlos Alcaraz

Andrea Vavassori in the second round in Rotterdam
Andrea Vavassori made it through the first round of the ATP tournament in Rotterdam, taking advantage of the physical problems of Felix Auger-Aliassime: the Canadian, number 23 in the world, in fact felt a foot problem that prevented him from going beyond the second set, and on the result of 6-7(3), 6-4 è he was forced to raise the white flag.
However, Vavassori had created more than one headache for Auger-Aliassime already in the first game fraction, losing it only at the tie-break. The Turin-based player’s level of play è was high in the second set as well, and the nearly three hundred rank difference between the two (Vavassori è No. 317) was hardly noticeable.
Now forò there's another very strong opponent in the face of the 1995 class athlete: against him, in the round of 16, there will in fact be Carlos Alcaraz, the number 1 seed in the Dutch tournament, who in the first round overcame not without some problems the host Botic van de Zandschulp, 7-6(3), 3-6, 6-1.
The Rotterdam tournament, on the calendar since 1974, has been held since 2000 on indoor concrete: holding the title è Jannik Sinner, who last year beat Alex de Minaur 7-5, 6-4 in the final. The South Tyrolean won't be at the start of the 2025 edition, however, because of the rest he was advised by his staff after the Australian Open, which he won in January in Melbourne for the second consecutive time.
