Giacomo Nizzolo looks beyond the first podium in 2025

Giacomo Nizzolo second in Oman
The fourth stage of the Tour of Oman è was not, by a whisker, the good one for Giacomo Nizzolo. The Q36.5 sprinter è was the protagonist of a high-level sprint, but è was mocked right at the finish line by Olav-Kooij, a Dutchman from the Visma-Lease a Bike team. Despite the placing, the first podium finish of 2025 satisfies the veteran of the group, who is ready to put himself on the line in future races.
"The race è was pretty controlled,” Nizzolo said at the end of the day, “we didn't ride at a very high pace. I wanted to conserve energy for the last kilometer, because it was slightly uphill. I managed to find the right wheel and placed myself behind Olav Kooij in the last kilometers. I tried to pass him, but it è was not possible. He was simply moreù strong".
No regrets, however, for Nizzolo, who looks beyond today’s placing: "I’m happy for my first podium of the year,” said the two-time champion of Italy, in 2016 and 2020, as well as European champion always in the year marked by Covid. “I have to thank my team, I’m already loaded for the next races".
For Nizzolo, the one that just started è his second season in the jersey of Q36.5, the Swiss team founded by Douglas Ryder that picked up the legacy of the South African association that was named Qhubeka. In 2024, the 1989-class sprinter took a victory, in the final stage of the Sibiu Cycling Tour in Romania on July 9.
