Paola Egonu and Milan fall again under Conegliano’s blows

Numia Vero Volley Milan fails to take the Palaverde di Villorba in the challenge against Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano, valid for the ninth day of the return of Serie A1 Tigotà. The meneghine, deprived of Orro – who remained at home as a precautionary measure due to abdominal problems – tried to hold their own against the Venetians, fresh winners of the Italian Cup, but had to surrender in three sets (25-17; 25-21; 25-16). At the start of the match, after winning the break, Milan suffered the Panthers’ stretch, who, dragged by a Lubian in great form, closed 25-17 despite attempts by Heyrman and Daalderop. In the second partial, Vero Volley è remained in the slipstream until 11-10, but Haak's ace allowed Imoco again to lengthen the gap; the fight è continued until 23-21, but in the final Conegliano got the better of it, taking the 2-0 lead (25-21). In the third set, Lavarini’s team tried several times to come back until Kurtagic’s wall of 13-11, but in the distance gave up 25-16, thus seeing the possibility of a rematch three days after the Italian Cup final fade away. MVP of the challenge Lubian decisive in all three partials. For Milan in double figures Paola Egonu, author of 11 points. Numia Vero Volley must now quickly put this evening behind them and immediately put the next opponent in their sights: on Sunday, February 16 at 19:00 they will face Bergamo on the home court of the Allianz Cloud.

For the new confrontation with the Panthers, coach Lavarini will field Konstantinidou-Egonu in the setter-opponent diagonal, Sylla and Daalderop as setters, Danesi and Heyrman in the center, Gelin as libero.

The first point of the match for Numia Vero Volleyball came with Egonu (1-1), followed by Sylla and Danesi, who won the break taking the lead to’1-3. Conegliano reacted and restored parity at 4-4, and Milan thus had to restart. Change in command: the Panthers lead 7-4 and force coach Lavarini to the immediate suspension. On the restart, despite Daalderop's attack, new stretch for the hosts who find 13-7. Sylla tries to interrupt Imoco&#39s pace with 16-10, but Conegliano continues to grind out points and with Lanier flies to 19-11, and again interruption for Milan. Lavarini’s girls return to the court, but the inertia of the set does not change and the Venetians touch +10 (22-12). Daalderop and Heyrman recover a break and also accomplice to some mistakes for Conegliano, Vero Volley brings itself back in touch: 23-17 and time-out for coach Santarelli. On the return, l'Imoco found set point and at the first opportunity capitalized, taking the partial 25-17.

The second fraction opens immediately with a break for Prosecco Doc (4-2), but Numia stays in the wake and finds -1 (7-6). Conegliano accelerates again, leading 10-6, and coach Lavarini opts for a double change: Pietrini for Daalderop and Kurtagic for Danesi. Milan reacts with a string of four points, getting back to -1 (11-10), but Imoco regains control and stretches to 17-12 with an ace by Haak, forcing the opponents to time-out. Pietrini tries to shake her with 19-14, followed by Sylla, who signs 21-18, while a Milanese monster block forces coach Santarelli to stop the game. Vero Volley gets even closer with Egonu and Kurtagic (23-21), but Lubian closes the score: first she conquers the set point, then she also seals the second partial on 25-21.

The beginning of the third set è balanced, with Conegliano pushing on offense and Milan defending with determination (3-3). The balance is broken on 6-4 for the Panthers, who stretch to 10-7. Sylla and Egonu shorten the gap (11-9), while Kurtagic places her first wall of the night (13-11), but Lubian’s ace brings Conegliano back to +5 (16-11). Coach Lavarini tries to change the cards by inserting Guidi, but Chirichella punishes the meneghine twice and forces the Milanese coach to call time-out to restore motivation to his girls. On the return, Conegliano continues to grind out points and leads 20-12. Heyrman tries to shake things up (21-14), but the net mocks Pietrini (23-14). Match point comes (24-15): Milan resists, but Lubian closes the set (25-16) and the match (3-0), denying Numia a rematch.
