World Ski Championships: Federica Brignone starts well in the giant slalom, fall for Sofia Goggia

Women’s Glacier: Federica Brignone ahead in first run, fall for Sofia Goggia
The women’s giant slalom at the World Ski Championships in Saalbach opened in the sign of Federica Brignone. The skier from Valle d’Aosta, in fact, finished in the lead in the first run with a time of 1:10.14, preceding New Zealand’s Alice Robinson by 67 hundredths. Completing the top 3 was American Paula Moltzan, more than a second behind the Italian.
Fourth and fifth positions for Lara Gut-Behrami and Sara Hector, with the former mocking the latter by only three hundredths. Completing the top 10 are Thea Louise Stjernesund, Lena Duerr, Zrinka Ljutic, Lara Colturi and Julia Scheib.
First run to be resigned for Sofia Goggia and Marta Bassino, who are the protagonists of a fall in the top section that effectively ousts them from the medal fight. Finally, Lara Della Mea does not go beyond 31st position, paying a gap of five seconds from the skier from Valle d’Aosta.
Looking ahead to the second run, in all likelihood, it will be Federica Brignone and Alice Robinson who will be contending for the gold medal, with the New Zealander who è will be called upon to pull off a feat to close the wide gap.
