In Doha first win in a WTA 1000 for Amanda Anisimova

World No. 41 Amanda Anisimova of the United States won her first career WTA 1000 tournament in Doha. The 23-year-old from New Jersey defeated Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko (No. 37), who came out of a 1000 final defeated for the third time.

In Qatar Anisimova won her third title on the major circuit after those in Bogotà in 2019 and Melbourne in 2022. "I cannot believe it" rejoiced the winner in the post-match interview. "This week è has been fantastic", added Anisimova.

The U.S. defeated world No. 10 and recent Australian Open semifinalist Paula Badosa in Doha, before ending Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova's (No. 26) streak of eight straight wins in the semifinals.

In the first set Ostapenko immediately saves a break point on the’1-1, on 2-2 forò she gives up her service, immediately retrieves it but on 4-4 another break for Anisimova who closes the partial shortly after.

More or less the same script in the second set: break in favor of Anisimova on’1-1 immediately recovered by Ostapenko but from 3-2 for the Latvian there are four consecutive games for Amanda who wins after an hour and 20 minutes of play.
