Alex Liddi retires from baseball

Alex Liddi leaves baseball
Alex Liddi has announced his retirement from playing baseball. The 1988 class player, who è was the first athlete born and raised in Italy to play in the Major League in 2011 with the Seattle Mariners and to win the Caribe Series in 2016 with the Venados de Mazatlán, announced that he has hung up his glove for good, marking the end of an era for Italian baseball.
'For me è the time has come to say definitively no more with baseball played and thus spend more time together with my family,” said the Azzurri third baseman. “È a decision that comes from within, perhaps also because I am no longer batting as good as the best of times. I think I am ready for a new chapter in my life that includes both baseball – in a different way than before – and some projects with my wife that we want to develop".
"Mine è has been an unforgettable journey,” continued Liddi, “that has seen me fulfill the dream of playing in the Major League and other fascinating and important leagues. I am very proud to have represented Italy in so many international events, often achieving excellent results. I salute and thank all the insiders such as coaches and teammates I have met along the way and, above all, the many fans who have always supported me".
"On behalf of myself, the entire federal council and the entire movement, I can only thank Alex for the extraordinary career he has had,” commented Federal President Marco Mazzieri. “In addition to his achievements on the field, I want to say thank you to Liddi for the role of standard-bearer of our movement that he has been able to play at a high level on and off the field for more than 20 years. I have known Alex since he was practically a child and had the pleasure of coaching him on so many occasions as manager of Italy’s team. So many good memories are attached to him that he will always carry with me. I trust that, as he did as a player, he can bring his contribution to our sport" in another capacity in the future as well.
