CONI president already goes flat on Jannik Sinner’s disqualification

Speaking at a press conference at the end of the Junta, CONI President Giovanni Malagò wanted to comment on the ruling issued by WADA against Jannik Sinner, who è was disqualified for three months for the Clostebol case.

"In these months I have always been very diplomatic, although so many aspects lead to different perplexities and reflections, but with an institutional role like mine I think it is preferable to avoid public debate. With WADA there have already been a number of situations with regard to Italy and Italian athletes before Jannik that have brought some element of perplexity," began the CONI president.

"I would like to add forò how a series of dissertations by a few sports personalities who have expressed their opinions on the issue have not been helpful, sinceé we know what kind of sensitivities WADA has on what are anticipations and considerations on such matters" added the Rome native.

"In the end I think Sinner evaluated what was the best thing for him, some may interpret it as the least worst. I think he consulted with his staff and lawyers before making this decision" concluded John Malagò.

Jannik Sinner will have toà forgo some prestigious appointments including as many as 4 Masters 1000s, as well as the ATP 500s in Doha and Munich. The Italian will be able to return to the circuit for the Rome Masters 1000, which kicks off on May 7.
