Elijah Mitrou-Long lands in Varese
Openjobmetis Varese announced on Tuesday the arrival to the red and white club of Elijah Mitrou-Long, a naturalized Canadian point guard from Greece, who had started the 2024-2025 season with the Hapoel Holon jersey. The 1996-class basketball player è younger brother of Naz Mitrou-Long, seen in Brescia and al'Olimpia Milano between 2021 and 2023.
"We are very happy to bring Elijah to Varese,” said Maksim Horowitz, General Manager of Basketball Strategy at Varese Basketball.
This is a player who has played in high-level leagues and therefore will have an important impact for us right away. We are convinced that, thanks to his skills, he will be able to give us a big hand on defense already knowing coach Kastritis"’s style of play.
"We want to bring to Varese players who want and can fight for the eleven games that remain and we believe that Elijah has these characteristics" added the white-and-red executive, in whose words there'è the hope that the newcomer can contribute the best to the cause of a club fighting for permanence in Serie A.
Born in Mississauga, Ontario, on Dec. 15, 1996, Elijah Mitrou Long attended John Carrol School before his college experience, splitting his time between Mount St. Mary's, Texas and UNLV. Not selected in the 2020 NBA Draft, he chose the path to Europe, wearing the uniforms of PAOK, Levski Sofia and Apollon Patras, before a stint in the Canadian Elite Basketball League at the Niagara River Lions and a return to the Old World, where he played for Yalovaspor, Aris Thessaloniki and Peristeri. He returned to the CEBL, to the Brampton Badgers, in 2024, then signed with Hapoel Holon, before accepting Varese's offer.
