Atalanta, Gasperini-Lookman case breaks out: "Disrespectful"

Tension at Atalanta the day after its bitter elimination from the Champions League at the hands of Club Bruges. After the match Gian Piero Gasperini harshly criticized his star player Ademola Lookman for a missed penalty kick in the second half.

"He è one of the worst shooters I have ever seen. In training he has a very low percentage of accomplishment. There were De Ketelaere and Retegui, but he on the wave of enthusiasm took the ball. This thing I did not è like", said the coach of the Orobici.

Lookman did not digest the heavy criticism and on Instagram responded harshly to his coach: "It saddens me, on a day like this, to have to write this statement, especially for the results we have achieved together as a team and as a cityà. To be pointed at in this way not only hurts me, but it seems deeply disrespectful, also for the immense work and commitment I have always put in every day to help bring success to this club and the incredible fans of Bergamo".

Lookman hinted at other incidents: "In truth, I have faced many difficult moments during my time here, most of which I have never recounted because in my opinion the team must always be protected and must come first. That is why what è happened last night hurts me even more".

"Besides our incredible fans, we as a team are also suffering from last night’s result. During the game the designated penalty taker instructed me to take the penalty shot; to support the team I took it upon myself to do it at that time. Life è consists of challenges and turning pain into strength, which I will continue to do".
