Flora Tabanelli rewrites the history of Italian freestyle again
Italy's Flora Tabanelli won the slopestyle in Stoneham, Canada, seizing the first ever success in the specialty for an Italian in the Freeski World Cup.
The 17-year-old from Emilia had never managed to get on the podium in that discipline, but in the Canadian resort she gave it her all in the finals, with a score of 80.41 in the first round, a level unattainable for all opponents, with China’s Ruyi Yang second and the U.S.’s Rell Harwood third.
Tabanelli already has the mathematical certainty of winning the Big Air World Cup, and with two wins and four podiums in the season she leads by a margin the overall Freeski cdm standings with 500 points and a margin of 100 lengths over China’s Ailing Eileen Gu and 110 over France’s Tess Ledeux.
“È an incredible feeling, I’m really very happy. I had a great first run, in a fantastic season: è the first time I win in Slopestyle in the World Cup Tabanelli’s comment -. I am living a dream that is coming true, now I want to stay focused on the last two racesto play my chances also in the overall".
The World Cup season will be completed between March 11 and 14 in Tignes (France), before shifting attention to the World Championships in St. Moritz the following week.
