Excellent results for Italy in Brazil

Italian Paralympic fencing è absolute protagonist in Sao Paulo, Brazil, where World Cup competitions are taking place. In fact, as many as five medals have been won by Italian athletes in the first two days on the piste, two gold and three bronze. The group led by technical commissioner Marco Ciari is asserting itself with tenacity, giving prestige to Italian fencing.

Two medals bear the signature of Gianmarco Paolucci: the Grottaferrata native in fact won first the bronze, making it all the way to the semifinals of the men’s foil category B before being defeated by Brazilian Guissone 15-14, then he è took the gold in the men’s saber category B, defeating in the final act Chaves 15-12.

Getting "revenge" sportingly for Paolucci in the foil tournament è was Michele Massa, who defeating Guissone 15-9 in the final to win the most valuable medal. Finally, the other two podium placings were those of Julia Markowska and Andrea Jacquier, respectively in women’s saber in men’s saber, both dedicated to the B category.

Markowska è made it all the way to the semifinals, thus guaranteeing herself a place on the podium, after making it through the group stage and beating Poland’s Rogowska 15-7 in the quarters. Too strong, however, Georgian Khetsuriani, who won first the semifinals 15-5 against the Italian and then the very final.

Jacquier, the No. 1 seed after the group stage, instead beat Brazilian Monteiro da Silva 15-13 in the quarters. In the semifinals he è however, he clashed with Paolucci, who defeated him (then flying to the gold), leaving his compatriot nonetheless the satisfaction of the bronze medal.
