Italy did well in the first round of the double downhill in Kvitfjell, Norway. Nadia Delago (bib 34) took off the best Italian time in 1’34″68, preceded by the surprising Norwegian Marte Monsen by only 2 hundredths.

In third place Laura Pirovano at 36 hundredths from the leader and at 40 a Federica Brignone always on the ball at this stage of the season. Sofia Goggia recorded the sixth time, 71 hundredths behind Monsen, but absolutely able to lower her partials in the race. Nicol Delago also did well, finishing ninth, 88 hundredths behind the leader. 14th time for Elena Curtoni at 1″20, while è 26/a Marta Bassino at 1″51.

The second round, scheduled for Thursday; will clarify better the values in the field, but in the meantime è it is important to see again in the upper zones of the ranking the bronze medalist of the Beijing Olympic downhill, which has gone through a complicated period and lacking in prestigious results.

The other Azzurri: Sara Allemand, making her World Cup debut makes 41st time at 2″67, Asja Zenere è 42/a at 2″73, Roberta Melesi è 45/a at 3″35 and Vicky Bernardi 51/a at 4″29. The Kvitfjell program includes two downhill runs, Friday and Saturday, starting at 10:30 a.m., while on Sunday, also at 10:30 a.m., the super-G kicks off. This is a triptych of paramount importance in view of the World Cup and specialty cupsà. Beyond the overall standings, in which Brignone towers at 999 points, followed by Gut-Behrami at 809, both the downhill and super-G rankings are wide open. In downhill, the contention extends to at least four athletes: Brignone with 289 points, Goggia with 260, Huetter with 208 and Gut-Behrami with 175. Similar story in superG, where però it appears that the best chances are for Gut-Behrami at 385, followed by Brignone at 310 and Goggia at 246.
