Indian Wells: Jasmine Paolini in the round of 16, Bronzetti eliminated

Jasmine Paolini’s victory
Jasmine Paolini è the only Italian still in the running at the BNP Paribas Open (WTA 1000 – 8,963,700 prize money), the WTA 1000 on the Indian Wells courts, broadcast live on SuperTennis. The Tuscan bent 64 36 64 over Romanian Jaqueline Cristian, world number 79. For a place in the quarters she will face Liudmila Samsonova.
Impossible, however, for Lucia Bronzetti’s mission to surprise world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka, who è set herself 6-1 6-2.
Paolini closed out the program on the most important court of the Indian Wells Tennis Garden and reached the round of 16 for the second year in a row in the California desert, after securing her fourth win in as many direct confrontations against the Romanian Cristian. The previous confrontations had all been played on clay.
Paolini, who has not faced Cristian since 2019, took two hours and 34 minutes to sign her eighth win in 12 matches this season on the WTA circuit and avoid her second defeat against an opponent outside the Top 50 after her loss to Sofia Kenin in Dubai, in a match in which a fall effectively prevented her from competing in the second set.
